Summary (8.28)
Bodog is a sports book and casino since 1995 and their poker room opened quite recently (Sep 2004). The poker room is one of the "hottest" rooms today and is rapidly growing. The graphics are good and combined with a very functional lobby which is quick and easy to overview. The software is fast and offers great playability. They are working independently and are not part of a poker room network, as they are already an established online casino and sports book making a big investment into online poker. Real money player statistics - 3,500-4,550 ring game players during peak hours and 10,000-16,000 tournament players during peak hours.
Ring Game Traffic (8)
Traffic has grown considerably to a new site high. There are always games at $5-$10 NLH and up to $30-$60 for limit Hold'em. There are typically 3,500-4,550 players during peak hours, out of which at least 90-95% are in the Hold'em section.
Game variety (8)
The game variety is high, although the actual volume is low at some of the less mainstream games. The games offered are all variations of Texas Hold'em, Omaha, Omaha High-Low, Seven-Card Stud, Seven-Card Stud High-Low, and Five-Card Stud. The games vary between No-Limit, Pot-Limit, and Fixed-Limit. Full-table games, short-handed, and heads-up tables are all available. The games are concentrated on No-Limit Hold'em and especially the small and middle limits. There is however, some high-stakes action at the recently introduced $2.000 max tables, so even the high stakes player is sure to find some games to play.
Soft competition (8)
The traffic is at its greatest at the micro-limits and the games vary from loose to very loose, often with a 'viewed flop percentage' reaching upwards of 60% to 80%. This translates to very juicy and loose games for the small stakes player. In addition, you can normally find great No-Limit Hold'em games up to the $5-$10 limits.
Loyalty bonus (7)
Bodog has a continuous 10% reload bonus system, for every deposit that is made 10% is added by Bodog. The bonus clears at 3 points per bonus dollar. Bodog has a loyalty system and all new players start with 50 points. The points can be used in tournaments with real cash prizes. You will accumulate Bodog Poker Points by playing in ring games when you have contributed to a pot that is raked, in tournaments, and by time spent playing. Points are awarded ranging from a maximum of 1 point when $1-$3 was paid in rake to a minimum of 0.10 points when $0.05-$0.20 was paid. For tournaments you will accumulate Bodog Poker Points for every $1.00 in fees paid for tournaments you enter. 6 Points are awarded for every $1.00 in fees paid so you will get 30 Bodog Poker Points for entering a tournament with an entry of $50 $5 (buy-in fee). Bodog also offer a refer-a-friend scheme where the referrer can earn up to $200 at 40% deposit match of the referrals first deposit.
Support (8)
Bodog's support functions are via email and a
24/7 support phone number. Their response time is fairly quick and
accurate. The website is quite informative and covers most important
topics.

Software & Graphics (9)
Launched brand new software in Jan 2006, called Bodog 2.0. The Bodog Poker software is a full feature software. It runs fast and smooth with good playability. There are many options to customize your playing experience. Among other things, it allows you to take notes of the opposition during play and the lobby supply vital table statistics like 'viewed flop percentage' and average pot, but not hands played per hour. During play, you can see statistics of your own play, for example, how often you see the flop, win percentage and more. Bodog's software currently supports play at three tables simultaneously and you are always seated at the center. You can view all three tables in the same screen and actually play the "mini version" tables while having one main game up on the big screen. You can now simultaneously view up to three full screen tables. The graphics are clean and classy, but on the negative side the avatars are a bit clustered which makes it harder to see who is in a hand or not. Quite unique is the fact that they no longer use the classic "table" design instead you get the feeling of "floating" on a big red carpet (a new design that we've received various judgments on). It seems that players either tend to loves it or hates it. One cool feature is the option to watch a mini-view of a specific table while at the same time browsing around in the lobby. In addition, during a hand, your cards will be shown (but only to you) even after you folded so that you can see whether you would hit the nuts on the river. All sounds and animations can also be turned on or off in the software settings which is very good. Beware, when you sit down at a new table so that you do not have "auto post blind" checked, as this is the automatic setting by Bodog (annoying to post the big blind when seated under the gun!).
Tournament traffic (8)
Bodog Poker has tournament traffic of 10,000-16,000 real money players during peak hours.
Rake (6)
Bodog Poker uses a 'no flop, no drop' policy, meaning they do not take out any rake from pots where there was no flop. The rake is at a maximum of 5% on all types of games and stops at $3. The rake varies depending on whether there are 2, 3, 4-5, or more than 6 players at the table.
Sign up bonus (10)
They also offer a continuous re-load bonus of 10% on each deposit (the re-load bonuses are paid out upfront). You must play enough hands to earn 300 Bodog Poker Points or place $1,000 in wagers in the sportsbook or racebook or place $5,000 in wagers in the casino before you are eligible for a withdrawal after the $100 UPFRONT bonus. Bodog Poker has a standard 10% sign-up bonus match up to unlimited dollars. In practice the limit is set by the limits on the deposit options. For example, if you make a re-load deposit of $1,000 via NETeller the match-up of 10% gives you $100 in bonus. The rollover for sign-up bonus as well as re-load bonuses is generous, meaning it is fairly easy to get the bonus paid out. You must earn 3 Bodog Poker Points for every bonus dollar issued before being eligible for a withdrawal i.e. if you earn a $100 bonus, you must earn 300 Bodog Poker Points before placing a withdrawal.
Promotions (10)
The promotions at Bodog are good. Most noticably are their weekly $100,000 guranteed for $100 buy-in as well as WSOP, and WPT qualifiers.
Financial security (10)
Top score. The mother company is a well established sports book and casino.
